Heart It: A Simple Photo Habit That Pays Off

Are You Hearting Your Photos? Here’s Why You Should Be

How often are you tapping the heart icon on your photos?
Do you do it every time you snap a new picture? While waiting in the carpool line? Sitting on a plane waiting to take off?

Whenever you’re doing it - good for you! And if you’re not, let me encourage you to start.

Why Hearting Your Photos Matters

Using the favorite (heart) feature on your phone is one of the simplest ways to create a curated collection of your best memories. Think of it as your personal highlight reel. Instead of endlessly scrolling to find that one perfect shot, wouldn't it be nice to just search your favorites?

Sure, browsing your photo library can be fun. But let’s be honest, most of us don’t have time for that. (More on that in a future blog!) When you get into the habit of marking your favorites, you’ll always be able to retrieve those meaningful images with just a tap.

The Favorites Album becomes your personal highlight reel.

Bonus Tip for Mac Users

If you use a Mac, there’s even more magic waiting for you. Want to create a collection of favorite photos featuring a specific person? You can set this up automatically in the Apple Photos app:

Quick steps:

  • Go to My Albums

  • Click the + button

  • Select Smart Album

  • Rename the album

  • Set the criteria to:

    • Photo is Favorite

    • Person includes [insert name]

Voilà! A custom album will build itself.

Favoriting Photos Make Everything Easier

The heart function isn’t just about staying organized—it’s about making life easier:

  • Need a photo to print and frame as a gift?

  • Creating a photo book or annual calendar?

  • Swapping travel photos with a friend on the couch?

Your Favorites Album is your go-to place. It's a fast, easy way to access your most meaningful moments, without wading through screenshots, shopping lists, lunch pics, and dog antics.

A Simple Habit With a Big Payoff

Your camera roll contains everything, but your favorites album holds just the best of the best. It’s a smart, low-effort way to stay on top of your photo collection, and it helps bring buried memories back into view.

So go ahead. Start hearting your photos.
Your future self will thank you.
